The City of Calgary requires the supply and delivery of Class 2 and 3 hard, durable, and angular riprap for the providence offsite storm trunk project within city limits.
Standards
Riprap to meet standards in accordance to:
Section 10 – Heavy Rock Riprap in Alberta Transportation Standard Specifications for Bridge Construction 2017
Materials
In accordance to:
Hard, durable, and angular in shape Class 2 riprap:
.1 Product to have a 500 mm nominal size and:
.1 None greater than 800 mm
.2 20-50%: 600 mm
.3 50-80%: 500 mm
.4 100% greater than 300 mm
Hard, durable, and angular in shape Class 3 riprap:
.2 Product to have an 800 mm nominal size and:
.1 None greater than 1100 mm
.2 20-50%: 900 mm
.3 50-80%: 800 mm
.4 100% greater than 500 mm
Riprap supplied shall be hard, durable, and angular in shape and conform to requirements in Alberta Transportation Standard Specifications for Bridge Construction 201
Submittals:
The selected supplier to provide the following submittals:
.1 Certified copies of the results of the tests specified in Section D (Quality Control) of this Appendix prior to delivering any structure to the Project Site.
.2 Include product delivery schedule.
Quality Control
.1 Gradation testing to confirm conformation with Alberta Transportation, stamped by a Professional Engineer.
.2 Prior to delivery, perform the following tests in accordance with the California Division of Highway quality control criteria for both Class 2 and Class 3 riprap
- Gradation curves from approved quarry, laboratory testing to confirm conformance of specific gravity, absorption %, durability index, and durability absorption ratio.
- Submit stamped reports by a Professional Engineer to the City’s Designate.
.3 Provide a minimum of two (2) samples per class of riprap on site for review and evaluation by the Engineer. These samples will be used as a reference in judging the gradation of riprap placed at the site.
- Class 2 riprap minimum sample size: 10.0 m x 10.0 m
- Class 3 riprap minimum sample size: 10.0 m x 10.0 m
Delivery, Storage and Handling
.1 Supplier is responsible for the storage on-site until delivery to the project site can be coordinated by The City.
.2 Products to be delivered to a City Project Site located to the northeast quadrant of 146 Ave SW at 37 St SW in Calgary (SW-6-23-1-W5).
